Tappan Zee Forever

Since 1955 New Yorkers have called this critical Hudson River crossing by its traditional name… The Tappan Zee. A name that honors both the indigenous Tappan people of the region and the Dutch heritage of early New York settlers (“zee” meaning sea). 

The original bridge was replaced in 2019 by the Governor Mario M. Cuomo Bridge, but most locals still call it the Tappan Zee.
